Efficiency Powered by AI, Insights Driven by Experience
At the Florida Authority Network, we believe we are living in a historic era. We view Artificial Intelligence not as a replacement for the human spirit, but as a profound blessing—a tool that allows us to learn, synthesize, and share information at a scale that was previously impossible for a single creator.
The “Why” Behind Our Process Transparency is our cornerstone.
My personal journey includes a unique challenge: I am blind in my left eye, which naturally makes reading and processing vast amounts of text slower than for most. In the past, this was a hurdle; today, through the “assistive superpower” of AI, it is a non-issue.
- The Research Assistance (AI): We use AI to handle the “grueling work.” It monitors thousands of pages of news stories and public records such as; Florida country property tax data, Florida Sunbiz records, Fl business startups and incorporations, deeds, building permits business, extracts data from complex Hillsborough County CIP portals, and formats technical tables. This allows us to provide “Snapshots” of data that would otherwise stay buried in government bloat or never be seen but by a mere few.
- The Creative Guts (Human): AI has never lived in Florida, felt the heat of a Sarasota summer, sat accross the desk from a CEO and ask him the tough questions or managed a $850 million trust investment portfolio. Every piece of analysis, every “Brian’s Take,” and every strategic conclusion is 100% human-generated.
We see AI as a helpful “research intern” that brings the raw data to the surface so that I can apply forty years of market intuition to it. Farmers that stopped using back breaking hoes tend fields and used the technology of a tractor are still farmers. AI technology is a win-win for us and, most importantly, for you—the reader.
AI isn’t just generating content; it’s finally letting a lifetime of stored-up stories and market instincts out of the bottle.
Our Editorial Philosophy: Human Insight, Augmented
Why Transparency is Our Competitive Advantage
At the Florida Authority Network, we believe that the future of local news isn’t just about what happened—it’s about why it matters. To provide our readers with the most comprehensive data and deepest analysis, we utilize a hybrid editorial model: Human Insight, Augmented by Artificial Intelligence.
Our “100% Transparency” Promise
We are 100% transparent about our process. We use AI as a high-powered research assistant to distill thousands of pages of relevant news stories, public records, government PDFs, and technical dashboards into readable snapshots. However, AI does not have an opinion, and AI has never lived in Florida.
AI Assisted Research Policy
Efficiency powered by AI. Insights driven by experience.
This page explains exactly how Tampa Bay Business News uses artificial intelligence, what AI does on this site, what it does not do, and the rules we hold ourselves to. Transparency is our cornerstone, and we’d rather over-explain our process than leave you guessing.
What this site is — and what it isn’t
Tampa Bay Business News is a Florida-focused business commentary, research, and analysis site. We publish data snapshots, explainers, guides, and first-person perspective pieces written by Brian French.
We are not a traditional newsroom. Our contributors are not credentialed working journalists, we do not claim the protections of the press, and we do not represent ourselves as one. When we share public-record information, we link to the primary source so you can verify it yourself.
Nothing on this site is investment, legal, tax, or accounting advice. It is commentary and research intended to inform — not to direct — your decisions.
The division of labor: AI does the grinding, humans do the thinking
We use a hybrid model we call Human Insight, Augmented by AI.
The Research (AI’s job). AI handles the grueling work. It helps us monitor and summarize thousands of pages of news stories and public records — Florida county property tax data, Sunbiz filings, new business incorporations, deeds, building permits, Hillsborough County CIP portals, government PDFs, and technical dashboards. It extracts data, formats tables, and turns dense material into readable snapshots.
The Insight (the human’s job). AI has never lived in Florida. It has never felt a Sarasota August, sat across a desk from a CEO asking the uncomfortable question, or managed an $850 million trust portfolio through a market cycle. Every opinion, every “Brian’s Take,” and every strategic conclusion on this site is 100% human-written by Brian French.
Think of AI here as a tireless research intern that brings the raw material to the surface. The judgment, the instincts, and the forty years of market scar tissue — those are human, and they always will be.
Our rules for using AI
- Primary sources win. When AI surfaces a fact, figure, or filing, we verify it against the original public record before publishing and, whenever possible, link you to that record.
- AI does not get an opinion. Analysis, predictions, recommendations, and “takes” are written by Brian. We do not publish AI-generated opinion under a human byline.
- We label what we publish. Snapshots are AI-assisted summaries of public data. Brian’s Take is human opinion. Press releases are tagged as press releases and are the words of the issuer, not ours.
- No fabricated quotes, no fabricated sources. If a person is quoted on this site, the quote came from a real, attributable source — never from an AI.
- No impersonation of reporting we didn’t do. We don’t describe ourselves as having “interviewed,” “investigated,” or “broken” a story unless a human actually did that work.
- Humans are accountable. A human reviews every page before it goes live. AI mistakes are our mistakes, not the tool’s.
Corrections and accuracy
If we get something wrong, we want to know. Email [corrections@tampabaybusinessnews.com] (or your preferred address) and we will review it promptly. When we correct a published piece, we note what was changed and when, at the bottom of the article. We would rather fix a small error in public than quietly paper over it.
Disclosures
Brian French spent 25 years in finance, including managing trust assets at the institutional level. Where a topic touches a company, sector, or asset he has a current or recent financial interest in, that will be disclosed inside the article. Sponsored content, if any, is clearly labeled as sponsored and is never written by AI under the appearance of editorial content.
A personal note on the “why”
Full transparency: I’m blind in my left eye. Reading and processing long documents has always been slower for me than for most people. For decades that was a hurdle. Today, with AI as an assistive tool, it’s a non-issue — and honestly, it’s more than that. AI is finally letting a lifetime of stored-up stories, patterns, and market instincts out of the bottle.
I like the analogy of the farmer and the tractor. The farmer who trades the hoe for a tractor is still a farmer — he’s just able to work more ground. AI lets me cover more of Florida, more carefully, than I ever could alone. That’s a win for me, and I believe a bigger win for you, the reader.

The “Helpful and Creative” Challenge: Why You Should Read My Stuff
Here’s a fair question: with a million sites competing for your attention, why spend your time on this one?
I’ll let the work answer.
I’ve written more than 1,500 articles across a network of Florida news and press-release sites. Below are 48 of the ones I’m most proud of — the most technical, the most personal, and the most creative. They range from a Florida business owner’s guide to surviving an IRS audit, to a new technology that could reshape the world, to a heartfelt reflection on being a dad, to something that might just make you laugh.
If you’re skeptical, good. Skepticism is healthy. Pick three from the list at random. If none of them earn your time, I probably haven’t earned your attention and you should move on with my blessing. But if one or two of them land — if you find yourself thinking about them an hour later — then you’ve found something worth bookmarking.
You call the balls and strikes.
The 48 Pieces — Pick Three at Random
(Keep your existing list here exactly as you have it — it reads great. One light suggestion: break it into 3–4 informal groupings such as “Florida Business & Economy,” “Investing & Markets,” “Technology & AI,” and “Life, Family & Perspective,” so a reader can find the flavor they want faster. The descriptions you already wrote are strong — don’t change them.)

Quick notes on what to fix or decide before you publish
A few housekeeping items worth settling so these two pages are airtight when they go live.
Brand name. The editor shows “Tampa Bay Business News” but your current copy also uses “Florida Authority Network.” Pick one as the site’s primary brand for both pages, and if the other is a parent network, explain the relationship in one sentence at the bottom of the About page.
Corrections email. Create (or choose) a real address for corrections@ — an unanswered corrections inbox is worse than none at all.
Last-updated date. Put a real date on the policy. Update it any time you meaningfully change how you use AI.
Archive review. Since you mentioned the site was previously written in a more journalistic voice, I’d recommend doing a quick pass on older articles before publishing the new policy — relabel anything that reads as reporting, or add an editor’s note. Publishing a new policy is the moment someone is most likely to audit the back catalog, and you want the archive to match the standard the policy sets.
Optional additions. If you ever accept sponsored posts, guest contributors, or affiliate links, add a one-line mention in the Disclosures section so it’s on the record from day one.
Want me to paste either of these directly into the WordPress editor for the policy page, or would you rather copy them in yourself so you can tweak the voice as you go?Ask before acting
Claude is AI and can make mistakes. Please double-check resp
- The Research (AI): AI handles the “grueling work”—extracting data, formatting tables, and summarizing complex legislation.
- The Insight (Brian French): Every “Brian’s Take” or strategic analysis is written by me. These are the “guts” of the story—perspectives forged from a 40-year career in finance, research, and local business.
The Man Behind the “Take”: A Note from Brian French
My journey to building this network didn’t start in a newsroom; it started in 1976, huddled around a TV in Darien, Connecticut, watching Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser. I was a junior in high school, recovering from a sports injury, and I became obsessed with the “why” behind the numbers.
That obsession led me to a BA in Finance from the University of South Florida and a 25-year career in the trenches of the financial world—from cold-calling 11% municipal bonds at Shearson American Express to managing $850 million in trust assets for regional banks. I spent decades analyzing small-cap companies and surviving market crashes like the 1987 “Black Monday.”
The “CFA Level III” Ghost
I’ll be honest: my path wasn’t always steady. I’m blind in my left eye, which makes reading slower for me than most. I passed Level I and II of the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) program, but Level III haunted me. I took it nearly eight times, battling nerves and exhaustion every time. It remains a “non-achievement” that keeps me humble—but it also taught me that intellect isn’t just about passing tests; it’s about persistence.
From Portfolio Manager to Storyteller
In 2001, while interviewing Vice President and Portfolio Manager role at Merrill Lynch, I was asked what my greatest skill? I blurted out… “Creativity.” They were puzzled. I was puzzled. In finance, creativity is usually a red flag. But I realized at that moment my value wasn’t just in picking a stock—it was the who, what, where, and why of business and telling a story that reflects the closest version of reality I can humanly tell… intellectual creativity.
Today, the Florida Authority Network is my “creative” portfolio. I use AI to bring ideas to the surface that have been taking root in my head for years. Whether I’m writing about the life changing innovation in technology, or a new county park in Tampa or the superpower of being an optimist, my goal is to provide Information Gain—unique value that you won’t find anywhere else.
